Halloween this year for me was a tough. I couldn't help but think what Halloween would have been like this year had we had been in Idaho. We would have went to several haunted houses and mazes like we do every year. We would have picked out our pumpkins from a pumpkin patch or better yet had our own pumpkins from our own garden. We would have decorated our yard with newly purchased items. Our Halloween decorations are getting as many in number as our Christmas decorations. Halloween night we would get dressed up and go to the Trunk or Treat event at the church and then headed to Tanya's to go to her maze in her yard. New this year would have been at least Austin scaring people who came to our door. As hard as I tried not to reminisce over days gone by I just couldn't help it. Because we are in an apartment we have no yard to decorate. We couldn't even decorate the inside of the apartment because all of our Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas decorations are still in Idaho. There was no church event to go to. And to go to Tanya's would have required a 6 hour plane ride. Despite all of this I still wanted to "celebrate" Halloween. Every year I always have great intentions during the holidays of doing all kinds of crafts and baking many delicious treats. (Ok delicious is an exaggeration. So maybe just some treats). But every year I get so overwhelmed with the holidays I never do it. This year was no exception. I bought a couple of books on Halloween treats to make but never even cracked open the book.
We did get pumpkins though. On Sunday Austin was suppose to have a baseball game. When we arrived at the field we found out the game had been canceled due to the rain we had been having. We now had about an hour to kill before Corrie's volleyball so we went to the pumpkin "patch". The "patch" was pumpkins in a parking lot of a vegetable stand.Everyone picked out their perfect pumpkin and then we decorated them. Caitlynn and Dalton even had a pumpkin. Ashlie and Austin used gourds as noses. Corrie also went different and painted hers as a clown. Jeff picked out the very smallest pumpkin. He painted a face on it and the pumpkins hairline is just like Jeffs. I found a gourd that looked like a duck. I painted eyes on it and called it good. But as soon as I put it on the mantel it fell and his head fell off. I rushed it to the hospital and glued his head back on.

Halloween the kids and I went to a haunted house while Jeff stayed home with the babies. We went to two houses. The first one we weren't impressed with at all. We gave it a scare factor of 1. The second one was scarier. It was a maze. The first part had strobe lights and you couldn't figure out which way to go. The second part was totally pitch black. Characters would jump out at you. Since you couldn't see them it was pretty scary. At the very end a guy with a chain saw came after us. Austin was in the back and in a matter of seconds he was in front of the crowd. We were laughing so hard at him.
