Love a Firefighter

Note: I know!! I know!! It has been a long time since I have updated the blog. My biggest problem is I have to use the 35 mm camera to take pictures so then I have to wait to develop the film before I can update my blog if I want pictures. That problem has now been taken care of. I'll explain more in another blog. So over the next few days I'll get everyone caught up on what has been happening in our lives over the last couple of weeks.

Saturday Oct 13 I dressed up, wore make-up, heels, AND even put on deordorant for an evening out with Jeff. I had the honor and priviledge of going to the Laurel Volunteer Fire Department Annual Banquet. It was wonderful to meet all of Jeff's comrades from the past. I didn't get to hear too many stories of Jeff, but then again we left before the heavy drinking really started. I really felt honored to be among these men and women. They volunteer their own time to make this fire department a success and save lives. I was really impressed how these men honored all the wives who supported the department and their husbands throughout the year.

The evening started with cocktails, then dinner. After dinner they handed out awards for everything from firefighters with the top # of calls to the Firefighter of the Year. They also handed out a few gag awards. The gag gifts were funny but you had to be apart of the department to really get the full effect and meaning of the gifts. The one funny thing of the evening was the President and Chief both wore orange Hawiian shirts. Everyone else was dressed very nice and these two wore matching Hawiian shirts. All evening everyone was giving them a bad time. When the Chief was handing out awards to his crew they all had to stand up, receive their "award" in a paper bag but not open the bag. Once everyone had their bag they had to open the 'award' all at once. They all received the same orange Hawiian shirt. The Chief's comment was "You made fun of me all evening, now you have the same shirt". It was pretty funny. The evening ended with dancing, but Jeff and I left since we had a new baby sitter for the babies and didn't want to over do it the first time. (We got a baby sitter since Ashlie was in Delaware at a band competition. Corrie and Austin are more the capable of watching the babies for a couple of hours or so, but I thought 5-6 hours was too long for the two of them.) It was a wonderful evening. It has been a very very long time since Jeff and I went out together let alone dress up for an evening out. I hope it isn't too long before we are able to do it again.
