Tennessee or Bust!!

Last week Corrie and Austin went to Tennesse on a Youth Mission Trip with the church. There were 11 middle schoolers and 3 adults who braved the 12 hour drive to Chattanooga. They left bright and early on Sunday morning.

On Monday Corrie went to a Care Center to play games with the ederly. She also did exercises with them and wrote letters to the troops in Iraq. In the afternoon she went to the Salvation Army to play with the homeless kids. Austin went to a Head Start place and helped take care of kids ages 6 months to 3 years old. I think it was funny that on Austin's trip he had to take care of babies. Like he can't do that at home. He had a great time though. In the afternoon he went to the Food bank and helped sort food.

Tuesday- Corrie went back to the Care Center and had a church service with the residents. Corrie also returned to the Salvation Army to play with the kids again. Austin went to two different Head Start places. At one of the Head start places he watched 6-8 year olds and played with them.

Wednesday- Corrie went back to the Care Center and then took the elderly to the mall to go shopping. Corrie was in charge of a lady in a wheel chair who wanted to buy shoes. She finally found some but would not pay the $7 for them. She thought it was highway robbery. Corrie said she was very cute and really enjoyed herself. Back at the Salvation Army they cleaned. Austin went back to the Head Start again and to a Homeless shelter. He helped them bundle clothes that were donated. He put them in vacumn sealed bags and would send them off to be sold. The shelter made 6 cents per pound for the clothes.

Thursday- At the Salvation Army Corrie helped with Vacation Bible School and then at the Care Center she played ping pong with the residents. Austin went back to the Head start in the morning and then that afternoon returned to the homeless shelter to help them tear down some walls and finish bundling clothes.

They had a great time and worked really hard. They did have fun time too. One day they went to a place called Rock City. Here you can see 7 states from one spot.
Ya!!... I don't think you will find me on the ledge
I am actually surprised Austin is this close to the edge. He HATES heights
I guess the scenery was gorgeous. From the pictures it looks breathtaking

Another day they went to Coolidge Park. It was beside a river and had a 1/2 bridge to walk across. They played frizbee and just chilled after a hard days work.

Wednesday they attended a local church service and Thursday they went to another park that had a lake.
They really enjoyed themselves. On the return trip home they drive right by our house on the way to Maryland so they brought Corrie and Austin home. It saved me a trip of having to go to Maryland to pick them up. I had drinks, cookies and most importantly... bathrooms. Corrie talked non-stop most of the evening telling us all of the exciting thing she did.
