My Bestest

My freshman year of High School I met my best friend ever. She was two years older than me. It is soo funny. I still remember the day we became friends. It was homecoming and the band was building their float at my house. I can even remember where we stood when we started talking. My freshman and sophomore years were a whirlwind of sleep overs, skating, pep band, roaming the streets of Filer (shhh! don't tell mom), and lots and lots of girl talk. My junior year Tina joined the Army. Although we kept in touch for a few years it just wasn't the same. We eventually lost track of each other. Tina had married and lived in Florida and then Georgia. I was married and had children.

I don't really remember how we got in touch with each other again. Isn't it funny I can remember where we stood when we became friends but I can't remember that detail. I do remember where I was when I first talked to her on the phone again. The year was probably 1997. I was at work. Since 1997 I have seen Tina a total of 4 times. One time in 1998/1999 (I have the pictures in my scrapbook but am too lazy at this moment in time to go look). She came to Idaho for a visit. The other was 2006. She had moved temporarily to Mackay, Idaho. The kids and I were going to a family reunion in Yellowstone and stopped by Tina's work to see her. Another time was in 2003. Her husband was dying of cancer and I went to be with her for a few days. Oh wait there must have been another time because I remember living in this one house and her spending the night. ANYWAY, my point being we haven't seen each other much, but through the years we still keep in contact. Not really knowing the day in and day out goings of each others lives but still knowing what each other is doing.

Last Friday night I was sitting on the couch wondering what Jeff had planned for the weekend (He had something planned for by birthday but I didn't know what). Jeff was in the office and had asked me to come here. By the time I got to him he was at the door and I noticed he was talking to someone. I look and it's TINA!!. All I could do was jump up and down and scream. I couldn't believe it. My beloved Tina had surprised me with a visit.

It was a wonderful weekend of reminiscing, catching up and lots and lots of girl talk. All be it, grown up girl talk this time.

She left Sunday morning and in one sense it was weird. Even though we hadn't seen each other in years and had been even longer since we had talks like we did this weekend, it was like we just saw each other last week. We just always seem to pick up like we had never been apart. I don't really know when I will see her again. We have made plans to maybe meet in NC this summer. But I do know this. It will be ok.
