Murphy's Law

Yesterday's funny comes from the unfortunate events of Murphy's Law. It is one of those things that if you can't beat it then just laugh about it.

Yesterday Jeff was up and out of the house early to go see if he could get our newly acquired snow blower fixed. (His dad's that hasn't ran in 10 years). After that accomplishment he called an elderly lady from our church to see if she needed anything. He picked up a prescription for her and when he went to leave her house the truck wouldn't start. The neighbor helped him jump the truck but it wouldn't hold a charge. So he called me to come get him so we could go get a new battery.

Now here is where the fun begins. We have tools in the truck but the one he needed was missing. So I brought the socket set. As luck would have it the one socket he needed was also missing. After much effort he finally got the battery loose. He was screwing the nut onto the bolt that held the battery clamp together. You know the all important battery clamp. Well.... you guessed it. He dropped the nut into the engine. We actually thought it fell through under the truck into the snow. We searched and searched and couldn't find it. Jeff's hands were getting pretty cold so he went to put on the gloves that are always in the truck. Only one could be found. Could things get any worse???

We head to the only automotive store open to buy a battery and see if they have the bolt and nut. Their batteries were too expensive so we went to Walmart. I really hate to love walmart. As Jeff took care of the battery I did some shopping. Let's just say it would have been cheaper all around had we just bought the battery from the other place. But hey the babies now have a potty chair. ANYWAY, We now have the battery but no nut for the bolt. After trying Lowes, a hardware store, and Home depot (All closed due to the snow.. some had just closed within the last 30 minutes) we come home to see if we happen to have one. Now I must insert a little side note here. All of Jeff's tools are still in Idaho. Had he had all of his stuff he probably would have found a nut to fit this bolt. No such luck. He decides to call all of the automotive places to see if someone is open. The first place he calls is the first automotive place we went to. He said yes of course we have that nut and bolt. Argghhh!! So back we go. Well they USUALLY have that nut and bolt but they were out. So Jeff found something that might work. We make it back to the truck and within just a couple of minutes we have the battery in place and the truck running.

From the time I arrived to help with this little adventure it took 5 hours. Jeff was gone for a total of 9 hours. We took it all in stride and were actually making jokes like "if you wanted to spend the day with me you didn't need to come up with a dead battery scheme". Even at this ladies house Jeff backed the car into the driveway that was on an incline. With the snow I thought it would slide down and run into the neighbors mailboxes. Jeff said it won't go to far if it does slide. And then his after thought was "Well I haven't bought a mailbox today and with my luck....."
