Day Trips

When we lived in Idaho we used to go on "day" trips all the time. Now let me explain "day" trips Breshears/Long style. We would usually leave the house around 10-11 am. Stop at Albertson's for orange juice and donuts and drive somewhere...anywhere. Around 2-3 ish we would have lunch. Explore around and then 6-7ish have dinner and then head home. Yes a "day" trip always took the entire day. Even if our little adventure was only 45 minutes away. Our eating never consisted of finding the closest restaurant because that was always miles and miles away. We always packed a lunch. I always brought extra food just incase we didn't make it back for dinner, which we never did. But oh the stories we can tell. Like driving around for 5 hours only to eat lunch 45 minutes away in the middle of a cow pasture. Or driving several hours into a gorgeous lake (Deadwood Reservoir) only to find out we came in the back way and if we would have taken the other way our travel time would have been cut in half. But hey we did experience lunch with HUGE horseflies and the kids got to see my "bug dance" on that outing.

So what has all of this got to do with the funny for the day... Well not much really. Yesterday we went down to Harrisonburg (1 hour away) to help Ashlie dig her car out of the snow. Ok well it really was a good excuse to get out of the house. We started to pack the truck and I just had to laugh and reminisce. When we used to go on our "day" trips we would pack sooo much stuff. We always had everything we needed though. Yesterday I felt like it was one of those packing adventures but baby style. Instead of food, clothes, etc like we used to pack it is now extra clothes for the babies including extra shoes, toys to entertain them at lunch, movies for the ride, heavy jackets, strollers, diapers, snack food, plenty of juice, blankets, paper towels if Caitlynn gets car sick, a bib to put on her to help catch her car sick, a back pack full of lotions, diaper rash ointment, bug spray, band aides, Tylenol, Motrin, Kleenex, bug spray, sun screen, oh I am sure the list goes on and on. A Day trip Breshears/Long BABY style. Even though I wouldn't change it for the world, I sure miss our "normal" day trips. Maybe this summer....???.... If this snow we have ever melts.
