If you haven't heard yet. ASHLIE IS GOING TO JMU!!!! Yeah!!! We are so excited for her. This was her #1 school choice. It is about an hour from here so she will live on campus. On April 20 they had an open house. Jeff had that day off so I thought Ashlie, Jeff, me and the babies could all go to the open house. That was the plan..... That did not happen. Jeff had some important matters to attend to (Applying for a job. (long story)) so he couldn't go. That meant Ashlie and me alone with the babies. I think I have recovered from the pure exhaustion from the day so let me relive this for you.
Ashlie and I along with the babies head out the door at 7:30 that morning. Mind you the babies are awake 2 hours before they normally are. We arrive at JMU, unload the double stroller, diaper bags, umbrellas, babies.... everything but the kitchen sink. And we head to our first meeting. It is in the gym and EVERYONE in attendance that day is already seated. I am told by staff to take the stroller down to the floor. By the time I actually make it down there I feel like all 2,000 people are starring at me. We had to sit close to the stage which didn't help matters any. Caitlynn and Dalton quickly decided sitting in the stroller was not going to happen. Feeling like everyone was starring at me I told Ashlie to help me take the babies out of the gym and I would just walk the halls with them. I could still hear everything. So off we went. After the meeting and upon discovering we had to take shuttles everywhere, we ditched the stroller.
We managed to get the babies on the shuttle only to miss our stop and had to ride the shuttle all the way around again. We finally got to our destination late. Ashlie went into the meeting while the babies and I walked the halls again. After that meeting we walked to the next building to tour the dorms. Then we walked to the shuttle stop so we could get some lunch.
Lunch was challenging with only one high chair (to contain the babies), a very crowed cafeteria, and Dalton's love of throwing food. We managed though.
Our next stop was the school fair. Which we walked to in lieu of the shuttle. They had lots of tables set up in a gym with all kinds of information. Dalton and Caitlynn ran around in the gym while Ashlie talked to several tables. One of the tables had stress balls that they gave to Dalton. He was now in heaven. Now just to find someone to play with. He spotted the ROTC table and decided one of those nice uniformed men would certianly play ball with him. He walked up to one of the guys and threw the ball at him. The guy calmly picked the ball up and handed it back to Dalton as I quickly shooed him away. He then found this little boy with a bright yellow shirt. Yeah!! the kid is actually playing. But then he needs to leave to go to the next table with his parents. Well good thing he is wearing a bright yellow shirt so Dalton could find him no matter where he went. Poor kid!!
After the job fair was the bookstore for a sweatshirt and souvoneirs. This was like a HUGE candy store for Caitlynn and Dalton. And by this time Ashlie and I are exhausted and our tempers are a little short. I decide to take Caitlynn and Dalton in the little tiny foyer which I thought would contain them. We were finally done. It is now 3:00. All what was left was the shuttle ride back to our car. The shuttle ride is about 5 minutes and in that time Caitlynn has fallen asleep while looking out the window. (I have a picture of this on my phone, but.. again... TECHNOLOGY!!)
We made it back to our car. The babies are alseep in no time. Since it is only an hour drive home we decided to tour around the town to give the babies a little more time to sleep. Plus Ashlie needed to see where Red Lobster is so she could transfer there once school starts.
It was an exhausting day and we could have gotten more done without the babies, but both Ashlie and I agree. We wouldn't have had it any other way. The babies were great. They were just being typical 21 month olds who needed to go.. go... go. And they definitely did that. It was a GREAT day!!!
Unfortunately because of the babies the only picture I was able to take was this of Ashlie at lunch.
But take a tour of the campus on the link. That is where my baby will spend the next 5 years of here life!!!
