What a difference a Year Makes

Corrie and Austin have always had their birthday parties together usually ending with a sleepover. A couple of years ago it became a rule that they couldn't have their friends stay the night the same night. Pre-teen boys and girls sleeping under the same roof just didn't sit too well with me. This usually meant a couple days of sleepovers and parties. The last couple of years definitely has been interesting. The girls usually went off gossiping while the boys ran around teasing the girls. The girls would get mad and try to find a different hide out, but the mischievous boys would usually find them and tease them some more. You know typical pre-teen boys and girls. This year was very different though. I enjoyed sitting back and watching how much just a year makes.
Corrie and Austin decided they wanted to have their party at a laser tag adventure center. Their friends met us there. They played a couple of games and then we walked (well they walked while Jeff and I followed in the truck with the babies) to Pizza Hut. The boys ran all the way to the Pizza Hut and the girls slowly poked along. They were taking so long that we ended up piling them in the truck. The girls sat at one end of the table and the boys sat at the other with Jeff, the babies, and I in the middle (Ashlie was in Ocean City). I don't think the two even acknowledged each other. The girls sat and gossiped and awed over the babies each taking a turn hold them.
The boys on the other hand played with a toy bug they won at the laser tag and ultimately ended up taking it apart. They goofed off some but all in all were very good boys. Towards the end of the evening the boys were getting a little anxious just sitting. Our plan was to have them run around the building a few times to exert some energy but they ended up fine.

Last year I wanted to make the kids a shaped cake. Life became very hectic very quickly last year with our move to Maryland so I never did make the cakes. I knew they were disappointed so I promised them this year I would make them. They actually turned out pretty good. At least I was proud of them since I am NOT Betty Crocker.

I think Corrie and Austin had a very good birthday. We had a little personal family crisis this weekend. I want the world to know how very proud I am to be their mother. I am very blessed beyond words. We really pulled together as a family and made the best of the weekend. Thank you Corrie and Austin!!! I love you so much. Have a wonderful year being the big 14!!!
