Luray Caverns

It has been impossible to get all 7 of us together at one time. Either Ashlie is working or at Marching Band. Corrie is either at Marching band or Volleyball. Austin has been lots of places like working at the fair in Fort Ashby or baby sitting in Maryland. I was excited when Ashlie said she didn't have to work on Sunday. That means we might actually be able to spend at least one day of this Labor day weekend together as a family. Not so. Because of Hurricane Gustav Jeff was called into work on Sunday and Monday. And Corrie's volleyball practice was moved from Monday afternoon to Monday morning. And now Ashlie has to work on Monday. Which means maybe a quick trip without Jeff someplace close. We did succeed with that although it wasn't the same without Jeff. We went to the Luray Caverns about an hour away.

It was GORGEOUS. This area has several caverns but this one claims to the largest. There is no doubt in my mind it is. We took several pictures but most didn't turn out because it was dark in the caverns and I always get blurry pictures when the conditions are like that. Here are a few. For more pictures go to the website I have a link to.

My favorite part of the caverns was the mirror lake. In the next couple of pictures there actually are just formations on the ceiling and then there is water. The water is so crystal clear that you can see a mirror image of the formations in the water.

After the caverns we went to a garden maze. It is an acre of hedges made into a maze. We split up into teams. Corrie and Austin against Ashlie, me and the babies. We had to find the 4 stamp stations in the maze and then make it out. Corrie and Austin won. But Ashlie and I claim it was because we had the stroller and couldn't "walk" as fast as they could. Ashlie also said I didn't have enough time for pictures but I quickly took this one. We are ontop of a tower overlooking the maze.

After the maze and a quick snack we went to the car and carriage museum. It was neat but the babies were very tired at this point so we didn't spend too much time there.

We headed back home and went to dinner. Jeff got off work and was able to join us just in time. It was a short time together but we had a lot of fun.
