Relay for Life

This year I joined a Relay for Life team. If you aren't familiar with Relay for Life it is comprised of "teams" who raise money throughout the year for American Cancer Society. Then on a specific night (usually in June) all the teams descend upon a school and walk the track from 12 hours. The rules are you must have 1 team member on the track at all times. It starts at 7 pm and ends at 7am.

For one of our fundraisers we did celebrity scooping. We all scooped ice cream for a local ice cream shop. A percentage of the sales during our time there went to the American Cancer Society. Unfortunately it was a very cold day but we still had fun

This is some of our team members the night of the event. Most of the team members are from my neighborhood

Around the track they light lumminaries. Jeff and kids came down to see me so the kids bought a lumminary in memory of their dad.
The first lap around the track to start off the event is the survivors, then the caretakers, then the survivors families then team members join in. Several of us stayed all night without sleeping. It was an emotional, but totally awesome experience
As soon as it got dark and they lit the lumminaries they also lit some on the bleachers that spelt HOPE. An experience I will never forget.
